Sean Rising Sun Flanagan

Sean received his Bachelor’s degree in Advertising and Graphic Arts and was taught in traditional Taos Pueblo Drum tying techniques and methods by his Tribal Grandfather and Uncle. He makes traditional Native American drums using local Taos Pueblo materials such as elk, buffalo and deer hides stretched and dried over ponderosa pine or cottonwood. They are then painted with acrylic designs inspired by traditional and contemporary American Indian motifs. The drums have been featured at many galleries and museums around the country including Wahleah’s Taos Gallery, Two Feathers Gallery, National Cowboy and Indian museum, and the National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian. Sean has won awards at the Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard Museum.
